557 hectares of prime Teesta valley land make up the Tukdah Tea Estate, a heritage garden that was first planted in 1864. 781 workers take care of the 288 hectares planted with China hybrid bush. The estate’s elevation ranges from 2600ft to 6500ft above mean sea level. Tukdah now produces 220 million tones of tea per year. The breathtaking Tukdah with its distinctive bungalows and special character has had a very romantic history through its ownership by the Darjeeling Consolidated Ltd and later the Darjeeling Plantation Industries Limited, before being brought into the Chamong Group in 2004.

Tukdah’s plants were uprooted and replanted in 1963-64 in order to rejuvenate its production. The exercise bore the desired results and Tukdah’s unique, delicate first flush tea has earned accolades from tea aficionados all over the world.
