Chinese Green And White Teas

China is the birthplace of tea. It was here that tea was accidentally discovered by Emperor Shen Nung over 5,000 years ago. Ever since its discovery by China, tea was used only as a green tea for centuries. Hence China produces the world's finest green teas. Green teas are rich in vitamin C. and experts contend that they stimulate the spirit better than any other blend, claiming that it improves their abilities to think and meditate for prolonged periods without fatigue. We are upgrading and expanding our listings of Green and White Chinese teas, which for the most part, we now buy direct from China.

Huangshan Mao Feng Green Tea

Huangshan Mao Feng Green Fir Peak (Organic)

Huangshan Mao Feng Tea, one of China's "ten most famous green teas", was first produced in 1875 during The Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in the area around Huangshan Mountain. The tea trees are grown at altitudes of over 700 meters, and the fertile soil, cool air, and adequate rain make the tea leaves large and strong which gives Huangshan Mao Feng tea its long lasting aroma. What distinguishes Huangshan Mao Feng Tea from other Mao Feng Teas is the color of its leaves. The tea liquor is jade green in color and has a light flowery fragrance. Although it is not a scented tea, it has many properties similar to scented tea. The tea liquor has an apricot flavor, and a fragrance like magnolias. No apricot trees or magnolias grow in the area, so it is unknown how Huangshan Mao Feng gets its unique flavours. There are however wild peach trees that grow in close proximity to the tea plants, and that may be the cause. The tea tastes clean and refreshing, and lasts a long time on the tongue. Fabulous quality.

Jasmine Pearl Dragon Green Tea

Jasmine Pearl Dragon Green Tea

Green tea enriched with the fragrance of jasmine flowers has been a favorite since the Sung Dynasty, about 800 years ago. Dragon Phoenix Pearl gets its name from the visual characteristics of the tea bushes "climbing" the hillsides like a dragon coming out of the water. This green tea is grown in an area near the border of the Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. The area is mountainous and is often shrouded in clouds or fog. The tea is picked in April/May and processed by hand by rolling each leaf and a bud into tiny pearl sized balls. Once rolled, the tea is wrapped in silk mesh and dried by fire to set the form. The tea is then held until August/September when the finest jasmine blossoms are in bloom. The jasmine flowers are picked before noon and set-aside until evening when the petals begin to open in the cool night air. Once open, the "marrying" of the jasmine to the tea happens in two applications after which the jasmine petals are removed. Superb tea.
